Gary Stewart is a Scottish singer/songwriter from Perthshire now residing in Leeds, West Yorkshire, where he has been carving a strong fanbase on the music scene for the past two and a half years, playing both solo and with his band, which consist of Gary on acoustic guitar and vocals, Andy Hawkins on electric guitar and backing vocals, Matt Peel on Bass and Ruth Viqueira on drums.
Gary's style is best described as Nu-Folk/Pop with influences ranging from singer/songwriters such as Paul Simon, James Taylor, John Martyn, Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell to more contemporary artists' like KT Tunstall, Dave Matthews Band, King Creosote, Ray LaMontagne, The Smiths, The Shins and Damien Rice.
During his time as a songwriter, Gary has played various support gigs to artists' including Laura Marling, Jacob Golden, Merz, John Power, David Kitt, Glenn Tilbrook and Emma Pollock. The Gary Stewart Band have also played at the Masham and Otley Folk Festivals and were one of the finalists in the Futuresound Unsigned Competition for Leeds Festival 2007, playing a well-received show at The Cockpit alongside fellow Leeds luminaries Micky P Kerr and Kid ID.
