Dedicated to the idea of learning by doing, the Hurrah Players provides a joyous learning experience for children of all ages. Classes include acting, dancing, singing, musical theatre and stage craft, all of which serve to build artistic and creative skills.

This instruction is then translated into a hands-on educational experience through the mounting of four main-stage productions per season. Students have the opportunity to join in these productions, fulfilling their personal dreams and carrying the audience to their own “dream” state.

Hurrah Players was created by Hugh Copeland, a Perquimans County native, in 1984 to train young actors and put them on stage in full Broadway-style productions. The group is based in Norfolk, Va.

This 13 track album includes a selection of classic Sharon Shannon favourites along with both versions of the hit single, “The Galway Girl” �— the original featuring Steve Earle, and the newly recorded studio version with Mundy.

Following the huge demand for “The Galway Girl” single since the airing of the fantastic new Magners advert across all TV and Radio channels, IRL is now making the track available on a new Sharon Shannon “Best Of” album. This 13 track album includes a selection of classic Sharon Shannon favourites along with both versions of the hit single, “The Galway Girl” - the original featuring Steve Earle and the newly recorded studio version with Mundy. Special guests also featured on the album include: Damien Dempsey, Dessie O’Halloran, Kirsty MacColl, Michael McGoldrick, Jackson Browne and Mike Scott of The Waterboys.

The title track was written by Steve Earle while he was spending some time living in Galway writing a book. It was first recorded by Earle and Shannon in 1999 for Shannon’s hugely successful ‘Diamond Mountain Sessions’ album. The song has been gaining in popularity ever since, reflected earlier this year when it won the most downloaded single for 2007 at the Irish Meteor Awards. Mundy has been performing the song at Sharon Shannon Big Band shows across the country in recent times and had the opportunity to perform it with Steve Earle at last year’s Cambridge Folk Festival much to the festival goers delight.

Today is Thursday, and old Hollywood friend, Darwin Porter, returns to Frankly Speaking to talk about, among other things, his new book, an update on the old, very revealing, “Hollywood Babylon.”

He is always thought-provioking, fascinating, and fun.

One of Darwin many books The Secret Life of Humphrey Bogart: The Early Years (1899-1931) listed above;

From the Author: “It was an idyllic setting, a picture postcard of Victorian life that still thrived in America before its last vestiges were swept away by the…”

From Publishers Weekly Claiming to explore the “young, hot and horny Bogart,” former Miami Herald bureau chief Porter has penned a salacious account of the actor’s salad days. The book drips with gossipy tidbits from Bogart’s years on Broadway and in early Hollywood. For example, Porter (Hollywood’s Silent Closet; Midnight in Savannah; etc.) says Bogart worked undercover for Howard Hughes, procuring male escorts for the business tycoon.

He also charges that Bogart brought Jean Harlow to Mexico for a secret abortion (it was supposedly Hughes’s baby); and gives lots of steamy details about Bogart’s own sex life, including trysts with Tallulah Bankhead, Marlene Dietrich, Barbara Stanwyck and Bette Davis. Heavy on obscenity-ridden dialogue and light on official sourcing (Porter bases much of the book on the papers of Bogart’s friend Kenneth MacKenna), this book might appeal to Bogart junkies, but readers seeking an extensive, credible biography should look elsewhere. 64 photos.
