Dedicated to the idea of learning by doing, the Hurrah Players provides a joyous learning experience for children of all ages. Classes include acting, dancing, singing, musical theatre and stage craft, all of which serve to build artistic and creative skills.

This instruction is then translated into a hands-on educational experience through the mounting of four main-stage productions per season. Students have the opportunity to join in these productions, fulfilling their personal dreams and carrying the audience to their own “dream” state.

Hurrah Players was created by Hugh Copeland, a Perquimans County native, in 1984 to train young actors and put them on stage in full Broadway-style productions. The group is based in Norfolk, Va.

Learn about the foundations of the North Carolina Colony and what life was like for settlers in the Albemarle Region of Colonial North Carolina. The Newbold-White House Historic Sites tells the story Abraham and Judith Sanders, a Quaker Family, from 1730 to 1750.

Today, this architectural gem stands as the oldest brick house in North Carolina- with much of the original structure intact. Volunteer at the historic 1730 Newbold-White House, a colonial Quaker home. Volunteer opportunities are available for tour guides and receptionists.

Now Playing Special Guest “Livingston Taylor” joins Frank on Todays Frankly Speaking. Livingston Taylor is a Great American singer-songwriter, originally from Boston, MA. He grew up in Chapel Hill, NC, where his father was a professor at UNC.

The intro that the “Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts” wrote about “Livingston Taylor” on their website for his upcoming show this Saturday December 8, 2007 at 8:00 p.m. sums up his talent.

“When it comes to musicians, some are known as great singers, others are great players and others great songwriters. Livingston Taylor is all three! Songs he’s sung &/or written include: I’LL COME RUNNIN’, CAROLINA DAY and I WILL BE IN LOVE WITH YOU. With a career spanning four decades this music veteran, the kid brother of pop-folk superstar JAMES TAYLOR, is an ultimate crowd pleaser.”

Taylor’s break occurred when he was discovered by Jon Landau, (a record producer who would later go on to manage Bruce Springsteen). Taylor was one of the first artists to sign with Capricorn Records in 1970. His debut album, Livingston Taylor, produced by Landau, included the song “Carolina Day,” an original, personal song which helped set the tone for Taylor’s intimate and laid-back musical style. Now Playing Today on Frankly Speaking Tom Spagnol, Museum of the Albemarle’s Communication Specialist is a special guest on Monday’s edition of Frankly Speaking, discussing their seasonal events as they wind down season number two in their spacious new building. And, a few other things came up, making for some fun conversation.

Former Admirals owner, Blake Cullen, spends his time these days promoting “Jazz On the Granby.” Monday, he talks to Frank about the Friday appearance at the Roper Performing Arts Center of Randy Brecker, winner of two 2007 Grammy awards. The trumpeter is a founding member of Blood, Sweat and Tears.

Now Playing Today on Frankly Speaking we have Mark Twain and several other luminaries will be guesting on Frankly Speaking Monday.

Well, reasonable facsimiles in the person of Jim Bridges, a former College of the Albemarle professor who once specialized in one man shows. He is re-starting and we will meet the people he knows so well.
