Dedicated to the idea of learning by doing, the Hurrah Players provides a joyous learning experience for children of all ages. Classes include acting, dancing, singing, musical theatre and stage craft, all of which serve to build artistic and creative skills.

This instruction is then translated into a hands-on educational experience through the mounting of four main-stage productions per season. Students have the opportunity to join in these productions, fulfilling their personal dreams and carrying the audience to their own “dream” state.

Hurrah Players was created by Hugh Copeland, a Perquimans County native, in 1984 to train young actors and put them on stage in full Broadway-style productions. The group is based in Norfolk, Va.

“Tripping Holes”

Gary Stewart is a Scottish singer/songwriter from Perthshire now residing in Leeds, West Yorkshire, where he has been carving a strong fanbase on the music scene for the past two and a half years, playing both solo and with his band, which consist of Gary on acoustic guitar and vocals, Andy Hawkins on electric guitar and backing vocals, Matt Peel on Bass and Ruth Viqueira on drums.

Gary’s style is best described as Nu-Folk/Pop with influences ranging from singer/songwriters such as Paul Simon, James Taylor, John Martyn, Nick Drake and Joni Mitchell to more contemporary artists’ like KT Tunstall, Dave Matthews Band, King Creosote, Ray LaMontagne, The Smiths, The Shins and Damien Rice.

During his time as a songwriter, Gary has played various support gigs to artists’ including Laura Marling, Jacob Golden, Merz, John Power, David Kitt, Glenn Tilbrook and Emma Pollock. The Gary Stewart Band have also played at the Masham and Otley Folk Festivals and were one of the finalists in the Futuresound Unsigned Competition for Leeds Festival 2007, playing a well-received show at The Cockpit alongside fellow Leeds luminaries Micky P Kerr and Kid ID.

Anything Goes!! is a unique radio show hosted by performer Lise Avery that plays “an eclectic mix of jazz, standards and classic pop with a little bit of anything else thrown into the mix.”

The program airs in syndication airing 61x weekly via its radio and web affiliates and also airs on WFDU-FM in the New York metropolitan area.

Anything Goes!! is especially proud of its Commercial with A Conscience identity.

Now Playing Books for Christmas. That’s the subject of our book expert, Melanie James. She also talks about the value of publications autographed by the writers. Other subjects are the multitudinous books from Dr. Seuss.

Carolina Moon is the passion (well, aside from husband and child) of Melanie James, attorney at law and bibliomaniac. In 2003, Melanie and her husband bought a building to house their businesses. It was a rather large building, offering far more space than needed for offices. The bibliomaniac seized the moment and the additional space (notwithstanding objections of husband), fulfilling a long-standing dream of owning a bookstore, and thus launching a second career.

Why Carolina Moon?

In 1928, Benny Davis was inspired by the moon over the Perquimans River to pen the words to “Carolina Moon.” It has been recorded by many artists over the years including Perry Como, Connie Frances, and Maureen McGovern. So there is local history associated with the name.

Also on today’s show Wanda Stiles joins Frank, Wanda is a collection specialist at the Museum of the Albemarle. She talks about her fascinating job, and discusses some of the events of import at the prestigious museum.

Located in Elizabeth City, NC, the Museum of the Albemarle is the northeastern regional branch of the North Carolina Museum of History. Serving thirteen counties in northeastern North Carolina, the Museum allows visitors to explore the history of the oldest section of North Carolina, many times considered the birthplace of English America.

Learn about the foundations of the North Carolina Colony and what life was like for settlers in the Albemarle Region of Colonial North Carolina. The Newbold-White House Historic Sites tells the story Abraham and Judith Sanders, a Quaker Family, from 1730 to 1750.

Today, this architectural gem stands as the oldest brick house in North Carolina- with much of the original structure intact. Volunteer at the historic 1730 Newbold-White House, a colonial Quaker home. Volunteer opportunities are available for tour guides and receptionists.

In our second hour the Man, the Music the Legend Charlie Daniels joins Frank in a RCH103 exclusive interview prior to his upcoming show on November 11, 2007 in Edenton, NC.

Charles Edward “Charlie” Daniels (born October 28, 1936 in Wilmington, North Carolina) is an American musician famous for his contributions to country and southern rock music.

Daniels is a singer, guitarist, and fiddler, who began writing and performing in the 1950s. In 1964, Daniels co-wrote “It Hurts Me”, a song which Elvis Presley recorded. He worked as a Nashville session musician, often for producer Bob Johnston, including playing on three Bob Dylan albums during 1969 and 1970, and recordings by Johnny Cash and Leonard Cohen. Daniels recorded his first solo album, Charlie Daniels, in 1971 (see 1971 in country music). His first hit, the novelty song “Uneasy Rider”, was from his 1972 second album, Honey in the Rock, and reached #9 on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 1974, Daniels organized the first in a series of Volunteer Jam concerts based in or around Nashville, Tennessee. Except for a three-year gap in the late 1980s, these jams have continued ever since.

In 1975, he had a top 30 hit as leader of the Charlie Daniels Band with the Southern Rock self-identification anthem “The South’s Gonna Do It Again”. “Long Haired Country Boy” was also a minor hit in that year.

Daniels won the Grammy Award for Best Country Vocal Performance in 1979 for “The Devil Went Down to Georgia”, which reached #3 on the charts.

Subsequent Daniels pop hits included “In America” (#11 in 1980), “The Legend of Wooley Swamp” (#31 in 1980), and “Still in Saigon” (#22 in 1982). In 1980, Daniels participated in the country music concept album, The Legend of Jesse James.

In the late 1980s and 1990s, several of Daniels’ albums and singles were hits on the Country charts. Daniels also released several Gospel and Christian records. [ source - wikipedia ]
